Margaret Hamley

Margaret Hamley BA (Hons), Dip Ed, MSW Marg began her professional career as a secondary teacher and educational psychologist. She went on to hold leadership roles for more than 30 years in community service organisations including Anglicare, The Salvation Army and Berry Street. These roles involved program and policy responsibility for child & family, family violence, homelessness and education responses. In 2019, Marg took on the position of Academic Specialist with the Department of Social Work at the University of Melbourne and this role included strategic support for the Family Violence Research Group.

Marg is currently acting Director, Southern Division at VACCA (the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency) with operational responsibility for a range of family violence services for Aboriginal women, children, men and young people. These services include therapeutic programs, crisis accommodation & support, case management, child focused interventions, men’s programs and intake through the Orange Door. This experience further highlights for Marg the absolute necessity of culturally appropriate and safe family violence responses.

Marg has consistently held voluntary board positions and has participated in Ministerial Advisory committees. Currently these responsibilities include membership of the Safer Families Centre Advisory Group. In 2012 Margaret's commitment to children and families was recognised when she was awarded the Robin Clark Memorial Award for Inspirational Leadership by the Victorian Minister for Community Services.
